Scale Solar System: Sun
This summer, 2016, my daughter and I decided to find the parts of the Scale Solar System that starts in downtown Peoria, Illinois, at the Riverfront Museum.
First, of course, was the sun. Sol. This was a huge bricked area that acts as a patio at the Riverfront Museum. You might not even realize what it was unless you looked.
A plaque hangs on the museum that describes it. Understand again that this is a scale solar system. The picture of my daughter and the sun will be necessary for perspective when viewing the other planets. In fact, we accidentally did it a bit backwards, which worked out for the best in the end to understand the whole scale of the thing. See, we parked a few blocks away at the Riverplex and came across Mercury first because I knew it was there. Looking at Mercury and then the sun is quite impressive, especially when you think that planets are these monumentally large bodies.
Also next to the plaque of the sun is this listing of the other celestial bodies in the scale solar system. This has come in quite handy in finding the others, let me tell you.
